Three jailed for terrifying Scarborough robbery

Three individuals from Scarborough have been jailed for a terrifying robbery that left a victim with lasting trauma. Sadie Metcalfe, 45-year-old Luke Clayton, and 29-year-old Lloyd Fitzgerald were each sentenced to prison today (Friday 3 July 2026) at York Crown Court after admitting their roles in the attack.

The court heard that on Tuesday 26 March 2026, the victim was lured to an address on Seamer Road by his association with Metcalfe. Upon arrival, the victim entered the property and sat in the living room. Shortly afterwards, two men emerged from the kitchen and became aggressive towards him.

One of the men was known to the victim as Luke Clayton. The second, who was unknown at the time, referred to himself as "M".

The victim was then threatened and assaulted inside the address. During the attack, objects including a mirror and a gold vodka bottle were used to reinforce threats, and the victim had a tooth knocked out. He was forced to hand over personal belongings, including a Nokia mobile phone, a gold vape device, and £15 in cash. Even after surrendering his belongings, the offenders continued to search him.

Following the incident, the victim managed to leave the address and made his way to Scarborough Police Station to seek help. North Yorkshire Police immediately launched an investigation. The victim named Metcalfe and Clayton directly and provided a detailed description of the third suspect, who was subsequently identified as Fitzgerald during a video identification procedure.

The trio were swiftly arrested. During enquiries, officers seized a gold vodka bottle and two mirrors believed to have been used during the robbery. The stolen gold vape device and £15 in cash were recovered from Clayton at the time of his arrest and later confirmed by the victim as his property.

All three defendants were jointly charged with robbery and pleaded guilty at their first appearance at York Crown Court on 11 May 2026.

In a victim personal statement read to the court, the victim described the lasting impact of the attack. He said: "Before this offence, I was independent and trusted people, particularly those I considered friends. I attended the location believing I was meeting people I know, but instead I was robbed. Being lured there by individuals I trusted has had a significant impact on me. I suffer from anxiety and a constant sense of fear since the incident, which has significantly affected my independence."

Following sentencing, investigating officer Detective Constable Sam Rivers, of North Yorkshire Police’s Scarborough and Ryedale CID, said: "This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim, who was left with several injuries, including the loss of a tooth. These three individuals thought they could intimidate and assault someone for little more than mobile phone, a vape, and £15 in cash. Violence and intimidation of this nature are completely unacceptable. No one should be subjected to such an ordeal, and we'll keep doing everything we can to make sure offenders are caught, taken to court, and held accountable."

Metcalfe was sentenced to 42 months, while Clayton and Fitzgerald were each imprisoned for 38 months.
