A man from Sandy has been jailed after raping and physically assaulting a woman, leaving her feeling like “a scared shell full of anxiety and fear.” Sean Wilcox carried out sustained abuse over a number of years, leaving the victim constantly terrified of what he would do to her. She found the courage to come forward and report the abuse to police.
An investigation was launched by Bedfordshire Police’s Rape and Serious Sexual Offences (RASSO) team and Wilcox was arrested. The 35-year-old of East Road, Sandy, pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and two counts of actual bodily harm.
He was also found guilty of rape relating to a separate incident investigated by Thames Valley Police. He was sentenced today (Thursday) at Aylesbury Crown Court to a total of 18 years.
In a victim impact statement, the survivor described the lasting trauma she endured. She said: “Simply being awake felt like a nightmare.
I was so ashamed. I was his victim, but I didn’t really know it.
I just knew shame and humiliation. The mental scars live with me all day, every day.” Sergeant Sabrina D’Amelio, who investigated, said: “Wilcox subjected the victim to sustained and deeply traumatic abuse, leaving her living in fear.
“The courage shown by the victim in coming forward and supporting this investigation has been immense, and we hope this sentence provides her with some measure of justice. “Tackling male violence against women and girls is a priority for us as a force.
