If you spend any time in Bilston town centre, you’ll almost certainly recognise the friendly face of PCSO Kenny Lewis. He’s a well-known and well-loved officer on the streets, always ready with a smile and a chat with the locals.
And some days turn out to be a bit different, as one of Kenny’s regular patrols proved a few weeks back. While out and about, he bumped into several old friends, turning the shift into a lovely trip down memory lane.
But as anyone in policing will tell you, no two days are ever the same. In a heartbeat, the ordinary turned life-threatening when young Roxy, a toddler in her pushchair, began choking on a sweet.
Her mum and nan were understandably panicked as the little girl struggled to breathe. Thankfully, Kenny was on hand and sprang into action without hesitation.
Using his first aid skills, he quickly dislodged the sweet and helped Roxy breathe again. Mum and nan were left hugely relieved and incredibly grateful for Kenny’s actions after what could have been a tragedy.
Kenny has served as a PCSO for 16 years patrolling The Lunt and more recently the streets of Bilston, becoming a familiar and reassuring presence in the community. Stories like this remind us of the vital, often unseen work our neighbourhood policing teams do every single day.
A huge well done to PCSO Kenny Lewis - a true local hero who was in exactly the right place at the right time. Share
