This week marks national ASB awareness week, with police forces across the country, including Warwickshire, highlighting the impact of antisocial behaviour on victims’ lives. From today, our officers will be making sure our residents know what antisocial behaviour is, the impact it has on communities, and how to report it.
If you are experiencing antisocial behaviour, we’re here to help and give advice, because no one should have to feel unsafe and isolated because of antisocial behaviour. Take the first step and report it by visiting our online reporting tool at: Report antisocial behaviour | Warwickshire Police We want to residents to know that we understand how distressing antisocial behaviour can be, and by taking the first step and reporting to us through our online antisocial behaviour reporting tool, we can help.
We will advise you on what to do, work with partner agencies to ensure you get the right support and take police action when needed. We know that awareness is only the beginning, so we’re taking it further and turning seven days of awareness into a whole month of action.
Because we know that cracking down on anti-social behaviour in our high streets, parks and neighbourhoods is what makes a real difference in keeping our residents safe. Op Selside is Warwickshire Police’s strategic response to tackle ASB, with one mission: prevent, engage, and enforce.
The operation builds on the force's approach to Op Resolve, looking to map ASB hotspots in towns across the county and step up policing activity to deter and address, reassuring communities and taking action on the things that they’ve told us cause them most angst and concern. From the 29th June, the first two weeks of the operation will launch with an education drive, where our Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) officers will be in communities and schools engaging with residents, ensuring they know what ASB is, the different forms it can take, and how to report it.
Moving into the second phase, the force’s focus will shift to taking action against those committing ASB. SNT, in collaboration with our Problem-Solving team, will run proactive public engagement events in neighbourhoods alongside targeted enforcement operations.
“ASB affects not only individual victims but also the wider community, undermining public confidence, increasing fear of crime, and eroding quality of life. It is therefore essential that the organisation has a clear and shared understanding of what ASB looks like in practice, and that we approach it with the same professionalism, consistency and determination as any other area of demand.” “Recognising the true impact of ASB ensures it is given the appropriate priority and that victims feel heard, supported and protected.” "Addressing ASB requires a coordinated, whole system approach.
From the initial contact in the control room, through to the attending officer and the neighbourhood teams managing longer term issues, every part of the organisation has a role to play. This is particularly important where individuals are making repeated reports, as this often indicates sustained harm that requires a structured and problem-solving response." “Over the next 4 weeks, Op Selside's strong focus on ASB will be critical as we continue our ambition to make Warwickshire a safer and better place to live.
By encouraging innovative thinking, early intervention, and effective partnership working, I am confident that we can collectively deliver meaningful and lasting improvements for our communities.” If a crime is in progress call 999. Share
