A man who attacked a man and a woman in Lincoln with a meat cleaver has been jailed. Patrick Joseph Wiggins, 42, of Portland Street in Lincoln was charged with causing wounding with intent, threatening a person with a blade / sharply pointed article in a public place and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was remanded until his trial at Lincoln Crown Court, which ended yesterday (2 July). Wiggins was found guilty of all three offences and was sentenced to 10 years for wounding with intent and a total of five years and six months for the other two offences, which he will serve concurrently.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £228 and was handed a restraining order against his victims. The Force Control Room (FCR) received a call reporting an altercation on Brayford Wharf South just after 6pm on Friday 9 January this year.

Officers attended and found a woman with a serious cut to her head. Investigations later revealed that Wiggins had dealt the blow to the woman’s head using a meat cleaver in an unprovoked attack and had fled from the scene with 35-year-old Kane Lilleyman.

Lilleyman had also assaulted the man she was with, causing minor injuries. Officers carried out a search of the area and Wiggins and Lilleyman were both arrested on Friday 9 January and subsequently charged.

Lilleyman, of Arthur Street in Lincoln, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and pleaded guilty to an offence of affray. He was sentenced to one year and three months suspended for two years when he appeared at Lincoln Crown Court earlier today (3 July).

Lilleyman was also handed a five-year restraining order and ordered to do 100 hours of community service. Detective Constable Emma Woolridge, who led the investigation said: “The sentence reflects the seriousness of the attack, particularly given the use of a meat cleaver.

“The incident has had a profound impact on the victim, and it is hoped the sentence will deter others from carrying or using knives, or other bladed weapons, sending a clear message about the consequences of such offences.” Pictured: Patrick Joseph Wiggins, 42, of Portland Street in Lincoln. Share
