Man Charged with Robbery Appears at York Magistrates' Court

At about 9.20pm on Sunday (28 June 2026), North Yorkshire Police received a report about an incident in the Victoria Road area of the town. Officers attended immediately, and a short time later located and arrested a suspect on Falsgrave Road.

A knife and suspected stolen property was located during a search of the suspect’s home address. While the victim was not injured, she is receiving specialist police support as the investigation continues.

Abubakarr Moiba, a 43-year-old Sierra Leone national based in Scarborough, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of a bladed article in a public place. He has since been charged with robbery and possession of a bladed article in a public place, appeared at York Magistrates' Court yesterday (30 June 2026).

Moiba has also been charged with attempted robbery on the same victim relating to an incident on 16-17 June 2026. He was remanded into custody and is due to appear at York Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation on 20 July 2026.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “This will understandably cause concern in Scarborough, but members of the public can be reassured that it is believed to have been a targeted incident and that the suspect has been remanded into custody.
