Neighbourhood officers spent the day meeting families, answering questions and helping break down barriers between the police and local communities at the recent SEN Festival in Kettering on Saturday, June 27. The event brought together children and young people with special educational needs (SEN), along with their families, carers and support organisations, providing an opportunity to learn about local services and community groups available across the area.
The Kettering and Corby Neighbourhood Policing Team attended the event at Kettering Rugby Club, where officers met children and young people and their families and support organisations from across the area. The festival provided an opportunity for officers to engage with families in a relaxed and informal setting, helping to build trust and strengthen relationships with communities they serve.
PCSO Karina Mottley, said: “It was fantastic to meet so many parents and children and hear about the great support, groups and activities available locally. “Events like this are a great way to bring the community together and celebrate inclusion.
They also give us an opportunity to listen to families, answer questions and build positive relationships with the people we serve. “Making those connections is such an important part of neighbourhood policing, and we were delighted to be part of such a welcoming and supportive event.” Throughout the day, officers spoke to families about their experiences, listened to concerns and gained a greater understanding of the challenges some people face.
PCSO Mottley added: "Speaking with families throughout the day helped us get a better understanding of some of the challenges they face and hear about their experiences firsthand. "It was really useful to have those conversations and learn more about the support available within the SEN community.
It also gave families the chance to ask us questions and talk about any concerns they might have." One of the most popular attractions of the day was the police van, with children and young people queueing up for the chance to sit inside, explore the vehicle and have their photographs taken. The team thanked organisers for hosting the festival and everyone who took the time to stop and speak with officers throughout the day.
Neighbourhood policing teams regularly attend community events across North Northamptonshire as part of ongoing efforts to engage with residents, provide reassurance and build trust with local communities. Share
